Intensive Communication Skills Program
IHC’s Intensive Communication Skills Program is a highly interactive professional development experience for practicing clinicians who seek to reconsider their approach to patient communication in the clinical setting. Participating clinicians may be self-referred or referred by their organization.
The Intensive has demonstrated practical results including improvements in patient satisfaction scores. The program fosters a productive learning environment free of embarrassment, threat or shame. IHC’s Intensive Communication Skills Program is expressly designed to provide the necessary safety and support to allow clinicians to take these risks. This highly-rated continuing medical education (CME) program is held during a long weekend (3.75 days) to minimize clinical responsibilities, allow extensive practice, coaching and self-reflection.

Clinician Coaching
IHC has been providing CE/CME workshops on improving clinician-patient communication for over 25 years and has trained over 170,000 clinicians and team members since 1987. However, sustainability of newly learned communication skills in practice requires support and reinforcement. Reinforcement and support can be accomplished through continued CME offerings via workshop and/or online, job aids, and one-on-one clinician shadowing with coaching and feedback, etc. Research and educational evaluation highlights the significant impact of providing follow up training to healthcare professionals using ongoing, real-situation skill practice and coaching support to affect skill development and use in clinical practice.
IHC’s Clinician Coaching for Enhanced Performance Course (CCEP) provides the support and training to build a critical mass of internal coaches within your organization to offer clinician coaching to improve communication skills at your healthcare practice.
Coaching for Supervisors
IHC also provides professional development services in three major areas to a wide variety of organizational clients and program partners: Course Development, Training Materials, and Evaluation and Research. As a non-profit organization, IHC’s daily fee rate for professional development services is set by the Board of Directors.
Professional services conducted by IHC are driven by the belief that healthcare teams are influenced by the following factors:
- The system and associated culture in which they work
- Their skill set
- Their motivation
- The roles that they adopt
- The traits that shape their behavior
In recognition of the pivotal role front-line supervisors play in the performance of healthcare support staff members, IHC offers a coaching training program for supervisors called Coaching for Impressive Care for Managers and Supervisors.
