In addition to CE Workshops and Faculty Development Courses, IHC offers individual coaching and instructional programs often with partner organizations. These training programs can be tailored to meet the needs of the client organization.
One such program is the Steadfast Program that has been offered in partnership with a California-based nonprofit. Over the last few years, Kathleen (IHC CEO) has participated in conflict resolution training with RockRose Institute in the San Francisco area. RockRose is committed to supporting, promoting and advancing non-violent conflict resolution, through public forums for interdisciplinary dialogue, training in communication and the development of educational tools, materials and programs for individuals, educators and community leaders.
In 2009, leaders from IHC and RockRose began a dialogue sparked by their mutual commitment to communication training and the development of educational tools, materials and programs for individuals, educators and community leaders. In 2010, IHC’s CEO, Dr. Kathleen Bonvicini and Maja Kristin, co-founder of RockRose Institute explored a unique opportunity and venue to combine talents and skills by co-facilitating the 2.5 day Steadfast program: A Communication Practice at RockRose Ranch in Nicasio. This 2010 Steadfast program, served as the featured pre-conference workshop for the 5th International Conference on Communication in Veterinary Medicine (ICCVM). The annual ICCVM Conference attracts international veterinary practitioners, practice teams, researchers and academics who come together to share best practices, ideas and innovation, and to build community and promote dialogue on important communication issues. The Steadfast course offered the ten practitioners a highly active experience that encouraged the importance of being present, self- and other-awareness, and action with clear intention. Teaching and learning strategies included groundwork with horses, guided debriefings, reflective journaling and action commitment. The program was highly valued and RockRose-IHC collaborative Steadfast programs were offered in 2012 and 2014.
“Steadfast is an empowering experience. I united with my strengths, weaknesses and rejuvenated my appreciative spirit. The facilitators created such a compassionate, safe environment and the horses provided a sensitive mirror to learn from…”
“I appreciated the focus on both task and process and the attention to both concurrently. The use of horses provided immediate, non-judgmental feedback that is unique and refreshing…”
